Calling the Game

Like Pudge.
Like Bench.

Like Yogi.

Opening Day
on the glistening green

shimmering
diamond,

with dirt under his nails

he scoops
the ball
from his mitt,

tosses back to the ace,

crouches,
gives signal,
waits

for the curve

of his smile,
and spits

o - u - t.

A Quadrille poem for dVerse. Exactly 44 words (title excluded), including the word “shimmer” (or variant as I've used here).

This is timely, indeed--and the atmosphere you create is right in the fly zone. Like the shimmering diamond image. Victoria

Lovely tribute to a great game (can I say, "Go Blue Jays!?")

Looks easy but quite difficult with the elusive home run.

Great baseball poem. :)

This is so cool. A splendid slice of back-to-the-baseball-diamond summer life. A clever structure that builds to a great finish.

__To me, there is magic in listening to a radio voice telling of the game. The night's darkness, crickets in the trees, the moon across the pond, a cup of tea, and the clap of that bat as it splats the ball over the "Green Monster." ITS GONE... the radio voice shouts, another four bagger!

i was trying to comment on the poem you posted for oln, but blogger wouldn't let me for some reason so here it is, sorry for the inconvenience!: i couldn't pinpoint precisely how this poem made me feel, but Sanaa got it wonderfully right. dreamy, ethereal, altogether a wispy substance of words and wishful thinking. i love how you incorporated the colors so neatly.
