In
that dream, I had all day and more
in the
lavender field, sunlight speckling
my
arms, my legs, the straw hat sheltering my face.
It was
one I'd never worn before,
but
you were there, sunny, honeyed
and
yellowing all my purple darkness,
as it
always should have been.
This was written for De's dVerse Meeting the Bar: the Sevenling. I was unable to post it in time so I'll be linking it to dVerse OLN.
This poem is oh so dreamy :D love this.
ReplyDeleteThat first stanza puts the reader right into that lavender field, and the last line gives such a sense of contentment. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe image of a lavender field is stunning, and being there with the one that is like sun. Oh you make me long for summer.
ReplyDeleteA lovely romantic hint about this poem.
ReplyDeleteThe imagery of the lavender fields are rich and stunning.
ReplyDeleteI love this poem so much. Excellent.
This is just so sweet and romantic. I wish I had words to give it proper praise. Love, Mosk
ReplyDeleteoh this breathes so beautifully!
ReplyDeleteLove the dream and use of colors:
ReplyDeletebut you were there, sunny, honeyed
and yellowing all my purple darkness ~
Lovely sevenling Jennifer ~
lovely...esp. with that unexpected twist at the end:)
ReplyDeleteLovely poem and I'm not saying that because lavender is one of my favorite colors.
ReplyDeleteThis is adorably warm and still a touch sad at the same time. The best emotions come in paired contrasts, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteMy favorites are the first line and these:
"but you were there, sunny, honeyed
and yellowing all my purple darkness"
I love your work, and I really wish you'd write/post more.
yes, as it always should have been...wow
ReplyDeleteYour use of color breathes such life into this beautiful Sevenling, the hope and then the let down. Google won't let me comment so I'm using my defunct blog. Victoria
ReplyDeleteSweet!

I love the scent of this poem, the way the light has coated everything... This speaker is smiling sunshine into the world. She's happy with what she has, loving the dream... but there is melancholy in the end... fed by that "should have been."
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cycling of relationship/life as a flowering roadside weed like queen anne's lace in August paced e.g.: seed... shoot ... petal to fall ... then seed again ... this piece so reminded me of Tennessee Williams' 'Field of Blue Children' ...
ReplyDeletebut you were there, sunny, honeyed
ReplyDeleteand yellowing all my purple darkness... that is a vivid image..
hey Jen. that honey to the purple. lovely ~
ReplyDeleteIn all that beauty and yet, the one like the sun what a gloriously romantic poem.
ReplyDelete"sunlight speckling
ReplyDeletemy arms, my legs, the straw hat sheltering my face" I am here -- I feel as though you've placed me in a Monet painting of lavender. Beautiful!
The last line juxtaposed against the first...heartbreaking.
ReplyDeleteso very beautiful! loved reading.
ReplyDeleteLovely sunny sevenling.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely dream this must have been...
ReplyDeleteThis one gave me chills, I like it so much. And that last line...
ReplyDeleteI also like lavender and planted some (to replace some that I had died) just the other day. As a matter of fact, I just came back inside from watering it.
Lovely as a field of lavender.
ReplyDeleteThis is very beautiful. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely. Haunting - in a dreamy, light as airy sunshine, sort of way. And what a wonderful form!
ReplyDeleteWaiting for new poetry from you...
ReplyDelete__Deep thought Jen... an impression remains, and it, so nicely written.

Stunning visuals, reading this feels like a dream - one of my favorites
ReplyDeleteAs it always should have been--this works on so many levels for me--
