the deadlight
arises
vulturous
lit candles warming
the addicts’ spoons,
lift plumes
like blackbirds’
wings,
ominous,
cancerous
moments that free
them
to carrion,
eyes nightblind
to hope threaded
in a spindle spoke
sky
