After the Thunderstorm Night

Fir0002/Flagstaffotos

When you
look at me like that,

as if I’ve hung the paper heart moon
with artistic hands,

a lavender morning mists softly
against my skin, each cell brightening,

stretching toward a living,
growing new day.

All I want is to breathe,
to breathe in this sky of moment, deeper,

to feel each evolving hue as it rises
like milk and sugared tea on my tongue;

to hum my birdsong notes
back to you,

and your arms
of encircling sun.

Viking Lover's Missive

The Mist

Find me here
in sweet-dappled sunlight kiss,

naked,
save the bangles on my wrist.

Come to me,
cling like mist;

like bilberries—
stain my lips, my hips.

Pull my flesh
from the silknight bone

and leave my carcass
to the stones.

This was written for Ella’s Sunday Mini-Challenge at Imaginary Garden with Real Toads where we were given the opportunity to write a poem inspired by the wonderful photography of L. Diane Wolfe.  I’ll also be linking to dVerse for OpenLinkNight.

Childhood

My hand in the river
of ice cold water
charges me even as the sun
weaves its warm and dreamy spell.

Cool pebbles bounce in the stream
and I am taken with them,
down, down, down,
and back up again.

Two smiles play on my lips—
contentment and mischief;
and I am sure that, today,
I don’t need more than this.

One year ago today I began this blog and to commemorate I am reposting my very first post.  Thank you to all of you who have visited, read my work, and commented so thoughtfully over this past year.  It has been my pleasure to have been able to cross paths with you and I am looking forward to many more crossings!

Also, my heart goes out to the people of Oklahoma suffering in the aftermath of yesterday’s devastating tornado.  May recovery be quick.  My thoughts and prayers are with you.  ~ Jen
