Ice blood
thickens, congeals
with spindly fingers
stretching across winter’s
skin.
We bear the marks,
troublesome, melancholic,
after a year of sidetracked
seasons,
of storms.  But wait
for hope
to spring, reveal
what in the dark
can grow.
