While I can still rock
a sexy halter top, tastefully, though,
and not too cropped—
when that day comes,
ladies of a certain age get the drift,
when the question
has turned to when, not if—
it’s off to the thrift to
alter top.

dVerse Quadrille: a poem of exactly 44 words including the word “alter"
Day 21 of NPM
I was never confident enough to wear a halter top, Jennifer, not even a swimsuit with one, but I would have liked to. Too late now.
ReplyDeleteThat's a sad day. Now I just wear voluminous high-necked black dresses with an old lace mantilla as I shuffle along the boulevard. It's all part of my Vieja Loca Collection. :-P
ReplyDeletehahaha!
DeleteOh my! I LOVE your quadrille. I am 'the' lady of a certain age who remembers the halter tops, bikinis, short shorts of my youth. My favorite tennis dress had no back. LOL Great job with the challenge Jennifer.
ReplyDeleteJennifer, I enjoyed your essay on the top-ic. It's been 50 years since I've worn one, so my day of reckoning happened a long time ago.
ReplyDeleteJennifer, love your delightful wordplay and yes, though I never wore halter tops, I certainly know what you mean. Lol
ReplyDeleteI used to love wearing halter tops. Those days are well in my past now. Lol! Great poem, Jennifer!
