we like cinnamon
and teal
here in the desert—
warm and bright
skies
with a sugar cube cloud
or two
with our spice—
like Mexican hot cocoa,
a cup, a flame,
as like Ball,
like Burnett,
enchan
-tressed
in cinnamon, chili,
cayenne—
for squeal-appeal
delight

*Ball and Burnett: the red-tressed masters of comedy Lucille Ball and Carol Burnett.
Also, some Cinnamon Teal ducks winter in the southwestern region of Arizona.
Sigh. So beautiful. LOVE both Ball and Burnett. And all things cinnamon, especially. Mexican cocoa.

"Enchan - tressed" and the lovely redhead ladies. How clever and wonderful this is. Imagining them there, with you, sitting around a table, sipping Mexican hot cocoa.
ReplyDeleteYour quadrille is wonderfully unique ... clever and tons of adjectives more!
ReplyDeleteGreat use of spices and flavors for this creative poem . A clever way to weave in enchant.
ReplyDeleteYou’ve brewed a fine cuppa here!

Vivid and evocative. Great response to the prompt, your blog is really nice.
ReplyDeleteA lovely colourful, spicy quadrille, Jennifer! I’ve never tried Mexican hot cocoa, but it sounds wonderful.
ReplyDeleteswoon! (i feel that one word is enough for this enticing poem)
ReplyDeleteI can feel the scent... nice to know we were two including cinnamon in our poems.
ReplyDeleteSo warm and welcoming. Makes me want to heat some cider and go out to watch the sunset. =)
ReplyDeleteI loved the imagery in your poem, Jennifer! So vibrant and beautiful!

Beautifully scribed..evoking thoughts, memories, through aromas, tastes
ReplyDeleteWhat's not to love when you entice all our senses, Jennifer! Smooth like the Mexican hot cocoa.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, you've used your locale to enrich your work to wonderful effect.
ReplyDeletePS--I love Carol Burnett. Have you ever seen the movie The Four Seasons? It's one of my all time favorites. Two couples (one of them Burnett and Alda), long time friends, get together through each of the four seasons. It's both hilarious and touching.
I admire how you can write airily and with a smile, as here, and also sharp and pointed as a cacti needle in others ~
ReplyDeleteSugar cube clouds, brilliant!
