ordinary summer nights

we’ve been
thirsting for this all year—

summer,
when we cut the edges off
with soft flecks
of twilight
that stream
the warm air,
bespeckled with

sprinkler water

to the carefree kiss
of bare toes
that splash and dash

for watermelon,
for staying up late

to share
the extra-

  7. Lovely vignette of Summer, redolent with its sights and sounds. I love the last few lines where everything is made special through the agency of a companion.

  25. This really sparkled for me. Lovely poem. I thought I had commented days earlier but the Internet seems to have chewed up several of my comments the past week. Anyway, thanks for sharing this lovely piece with us, and I like how the sprinkled water goes dripping. Fabulous. :0)
