snow,
heavy,
slush-like,
weighing down
burnt orange leaves
raked
and scooped
and heaped
in hardship
wishing now
to pull them out
turn them green
glue them back
one by one
onto
trees
to rustle softly
an enchanted echo
hushed
in winter’s tide

For Three Word Wednesday where we were to use the words echo, hardship, and softly...and for Poetry Jam where Brian had us take a walk and write. Here's what I came up with.
Snow! Tell me about it. We've got a foot of it down already, and more to come. Minus 21C. But at least there are thousands of conifers around us that stay green. Merry Christmas from Finland.
ReplyDeleteWe have a lot of evergreens here as well--so beautiful when dusted or blanketed with snow. The snow we got yesterday though washed away with rain...sigh. Merry Christmas to you! Thanks for visiting!
Deletewhat an interesting sight that would be watching all the leaves jump back on the trees...no snow here yet...i have hope though...smiles.
ReplyDeleteI was feeling a bit of a desire to turn back time...I love snow--but, as so many are, I am wishing we could erase the events of the last few days.
Deletei def feel you on that wish...
DeleteLoved the imagination running here... like magic. This walk is so close to nature... loved it.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much sreeja. I enjoyed your 'walk' as well.
DeleteI enjoyed this, and I feel the same way. Wish we could stick those fallen leaves back up on the tree again!! We are in the midst of a major storm right now. UGH, so I def can empathize.
ReplyDeleteI miss that lovely rustling sound of a light breeze through those leaves...and the snow we received yesterday got heavy-laden with rain and then washed away. Hope you weather your storm well Mary! Merry Christmas!
Deletean enchanted echo...I like that.
ReplyDeleteGlad you do, thank you.
DeleteI enjoyed this were waiting for the first real snow of the season so far we've had dustings because its gone around us.A little snow for Christmas would be nice.
ReplyDeleteIt would indeed...or even a lot of it :-)
DeleteWell, no snow here in coastal Southern California--but we can see the local mountains dusted white. We lived once in a place with snow and the heavy melting stuff was not something I liked--crisp frozen new snow was lovely. I like where your imagination went with the leaves.
ReplyDeleteAhh...coastal Southern Cal sounds lovely right about now. Thanks very much Peggy!
DeleteBeautiful...I can picture everything. Lovely write.. :-)
ReplyDeleteLol you should be able to ;)
DeleteYour "enchanted echo" is such a lovely combination of words as is this entire poem. Your title is ideal; there's something about the word "wintertide" that gives your work a nostalgic feel. Beautiful poem.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mary Ann, such a wonderful compliment you have given me. Much appreciated!
DeleteYes, we love to have the greenery back in place. If only it can be done! Nicely Jenny!
ReplyDeleteHank
If only...but I suppose that is what poetry is for! Thank you Hank :-)
Deletei love the idea of gluing the leaves back onto the trees! enjoyed the layout of your poem ~ it fits nicely with a walk.
ReplyDeletethanks for joining in at Poetry Jam!

Thanks Dani! I originally had it in a different form, but did some revising and I like this layout better. It's a pleasure to join in at PJ!
DeleteA wistful wish
ReplyDeletefor time gone by
swept away but not forgotten.
Loved reading this.
I love your haiku comment :-) Thanks so much for reading.
DeleteLovely... I hope you have a wonderful holiday!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Laurie...Merry Christmas to you and yours!
DeleteSo visual and a picturesque delight. Reminded me of a short story called 'The last leaf.'
ReplyDeleteDon't believe I've ever read it. Sounds interesting though and I'll have to check it out. Thanks Karishma!
