Sometimes as
I’m waking,
small light
drifts just
past the curtains of an aphotic yesterday,
a glimmer
in this big
expanse
where
wholeness and possibility
have fallen
dry like leaves;
like stars,
hidden half
the time.
Sometimes I
hold my breath in this space
of little
light
wondering how
long it will stay so dark.
It’s then I close
my eyes in peace,
exhaling a
smile of knowing
more dark is
just more room
for small
light
to grow.

Sometimes I hold my breath in this space - This is great and what a fantastic picture of life and hope. Light always overcomes darkness.
Your last stanza is masterful... and so true. Our light permeates darkness. Our brilliance illuminates the skies. Brava!
This poem is truly an encouragement for positive thinking, no matter the circumstances!
those little glimpses of light are so perfectly breathtaking. you make the dark not seem so horrifying.
I breathed in and exhaled this poem like air, food for heart lungs soul. We will have to help that light to grow, but, as you say so beautifully, opportunity exists.
yes. splendor starts with small things.
Well expressed Jennifer.
That darkness is needed - cool poetic style.
No matter how dark the night is, it has to move away when light shines....
where wholeness and possibility
have fallen dry like leaves;
like stars,
hidden...ah, nice...this sets the tension and i so love your release in the end...the dark being more room for the light....gorgeous piece....
What a sense of floating I had while reading your words... a lightness... a hoping! Beautiful.(Social) Justice
Oh my goodness, I love your work, Janet. I LOVE this so much, especially "more dark is just more room for...light to grow". And
"where wholeness and possibility
have fallen dry like leaves;
like stars"
Beautiful writing!
"small light drifts just past the curtains of an aphotic yesterday" Wow! Aphotic (what a lovely new word)for: growing in the absence of light - inspired and inspiring, Jennifer.

Love how you turned the darkness into a place of hope!
Very inspiring piece!
I like the darkness that ends with a bit of hope. Very nice.
To find hope in the darkness, a beautiful concept which often is where we do see our light. Beautiful Jennifer.
Loved the idea that dark is a place where more light can grow. A beautiful thought!
Beautiful yes, we always must see the light in the dark! Love the hope offered in your words :D
Drinking in slowly the spirit of light and hope! wonderful
I needed this poem right now. thank you so much
Spirited ending to this lovely piece.
Without darkness, there can be no light, so they say. And, I've always liked small lights best anyway.
I love the introspective nature of this...very beautiful.
