Small

Sometimes as I’m waking,
small light
drifts just past the curtains of an aphotic yesterday,

a glimmer
in this big expanse
where wholeness and possibility
have fallen dry like leaves;

like stars,
hidden half the time.

Sometimes I hold my breath in this space
of little light
wondering how long it will stay so dark.

It’s then I close my eyes in peace,
exhaling a smile of knowing

more dark is just more room
for small light
to grow.

Sometimes I hold my breath in this space - This is great and what a fantastic picture of life and hope. Light always overcomes darkness.

Your last stanza is masterful... and so true. Our light permeates darkness. Our brilliance illuminates the skies. Brava!

I breathed in and exhaled this poem like air, food for heart lungs soul. We will have to help that light to grow, but, as you say so beautifully, opportunity exists.

No matter how dark the night is, it has to move away when light shines....

Oh my goodness, I love your work, Janet. I LOVE this so much, especially "more dark is just more room for...light to grow". And

"where wholeness and possibility
have fallen dry like leaves;
like stars"

Beautiful writing!

To find hope in the darkness, a beautiful concept which often is where we do see our light. Beautiful Jennifer.

Without darkness, there can be no light, so they say. And, I've always liked small lights best anyway.
