her gypsy soul
trills in the desert sunrise
after groaning
a midnight whale song—
deep thrumming
heard even in the boughs
of high-up palms
waving their burnt-black sails
after pillage and storm—
her song a zing, whistling light,
when her pirate’s come safely home

a q44 for dVerse: zing
Gypsies and pirates, what more could I want in a zingy quadrille, Jennifer! I could hear the ‘midnight whale song’ thrumming through your words.
ReplyDeleteJack Sparrow, I presume? Whoever he is, he must be a very jolly roger to effect such a transformation! I hope that you weren't affected by the recent outbreak of fires.
ReplyDeleteOh, lovely! A gypsy and a pirate is an unbeatable match.
ReplyDeleteGoodness. As a fellow gypsy soul who always wanted to be a pirate, I could not love this more. Love love LOVE those "high-up palms/waving their burnt-black sails." Fantastic.
