Boxed

Bring me hope

that hasn’t forgotten

that look in my eyes.

Capture

all my longing

long gone

and bring it back

as if you’ve wrestled Leviathan,

stinging nettles,

the inky blackness of your own heart.

Bring it back,

run your hand over it,

as if you cared.

  1. You are such a gifted poet. Brevity with impact is no simple task, though you make it seem so. Thank you for sharing your beautiful work.

  3. Such importance in your words, and we need to face that blackness, only then will there be light.

  4. I love the brevity and simple structure of this powerful poem, Jennifer, and the idea of capturing long-gone longing and bringing it back ‘as if you’ve wrestled Leviathan, / stinging nettles, / the inky blackness of your own heart’.
