Leaving Crypsis

climb,
though it might be safer
to blend

climb,
though you might end up
decapitated on pride's wall

climb,
because the view
is always worth it

For Poets United:  Verse First ~ Difficulty.  Kim Nelson has challenged us to write a poem in 3 stanzas or less that is completely free of "gratuitous, show-offy, camouflaging" text.

I took these photos during a recent vacation in Chelan, WA.  There are 11 bighorn sheep in the top photo.  Can you spot them?

  2. I agree, Jennifer. it is always better to aim for the summit than to be content with the valleys of life. Nicely penned.

  6. Jennifer,

The view from the pinnacle is always the rewarding one, but it takes courage to make the final climb...Wonderful theme.

  7. Pride can definitely decapitate, but it is still more rewarding to climb.

  8. ...oh, that's quite a scary climb & when you get through it & defeat your fears --- ah, that for sure will be the most rewarding experience of all... the view from the top is more beautiful i agree... and hey, i've only counted 7 sheeps...hmmn... their colours are camouflaging in the background...ha, i guess i will have to try to count 'em again before i fall into sleep.... smiles...

  20. Lovely imagery. I am an indoor rock-gym climber and have not yet crossed the divide ;) into real rocks and mountains. Your poem and the pictures are awesome.
