chestnut

i have always admired

your shoulders

the way you walk with confidence

and notice me with your gaze—

the me inside this cracking shell

i am your trembling chestnut

i have always admired

your shoulders

but give me the burning distraction

of your hands

  1. I like chestnuts and I love how you used them as an extended metaphor in this poem, Jennifer. The ending is so passionate.

  2. Wow, this is wonderful - the cracking shell, the trembling chestnut, then the "burning distraction of your hands."
