The Fierceness of Joy

Photo © Jennifer Wagner

When escapes a tiny gasp

astonished by spring’s fresh-lit match

bursting against the gray—

you’ve begun to see

the world again

through the lens of joy—

and come thorn, come rain,

winter’s worst cannot stop

its blossom way.

  1. I love the joy in this poem, Jennifer, especially the ‘a tiny gasp’ at ‘spring’s fresh-lit match’.

  2. "astonished by spring’s fresh-lit match
    bursting against the gray"
The first flowers--crocus here--does draw attention like a fire! Color is welcome and a lens of joy for me, too.

  6. Jennifer, I can see why that blossom would sprout your poem. It's lovely. With the warm weather in Michigan, the lawn and back field are afire with dandelions.

  12. Cactus flowers always surprise me when they appear. The lens of joy is not always easy to find. Nicely written Jennifer 👏
