He sweeps back my tangled mess of hair,
kisses my neck and murmurs,
you taste like the sea.
My mermaid net collects this pearled moment,
like shells, like beach glass, in a jar on my desk,
soft-colored and smooth to the touch,
pressing them into a poem-cup, like a sip of the sea.

ReplyDeleteMy pearls are shelved with the whispering tides. How refreshing to taste that salt in a poem.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this taste of the sea on a November morning, Jenifer. A salty-sweet sevenling. I especially enjoyed the line: ‘My mermaid net collects this pearled moment…pressing them into a poem-cup, like a sip of the sea’.
ReplyDeleteThat is really touching. Thank you for a gentle start to my morning!
ReplyDeleteJennifer, your sevenling poem is gorgeous .... I felt heart rate and breath slowing as I read .. a good sign I have relaxed "into" the poem.
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeousness is this? Why, 'tis a poem by Jennifer, of course. Love it! 🙂

ReplyDeleteFine work indeed. I esp like your poem-cup closer. Sevenling's one of my fave forms; I post them fairly often. I thought you might dig this one: https://rlavalette.wordpress.com/2022/03/07/sevenling-enhanced/
