it's about more than winning

baseball is about more than just the money

baseball is
a metaphor for life

baseball is
to return home
good for what ails us
romantic
an art

baseball is
poetry

For Form for All:  List Poems and the Poetic Heart of Google.  Sam Peralta has us using Googlism to create poetry.  Our instructions were to visit the Googlism site and type in a word of our choosing and craft a list poem from the results.  Fun!

And for Clint, my 13 year old crazy-for-baseball, grand-slam-hitting kid.  You amaze me and make me so proud!  (Photo:  Desert Fall Classic Tournament 2013— opposing teams taking a knee together).

I do love this...there is an aspect of homecoming about baseball. Haven't been to a game though since we moved out of the Bay Area 20 years ago!

I take it back...we went to see the Reno Aces--AAA team for AZ!

i would agree...i love me some baseball...it is when spring begins for me...and it does make a great metaphor for life...we had the last high school football game tonight...just got home...and i am freezing...baseball is warmer...smiles.

I like that you have used a sport for your googling poem and see it as a metaphor for life. Indeed a lot of lessons can be learned from playing sports, especially in a team.

...and can you imagine that i never ever went to a single baseball game... it's not very popular over here and i never had the opportunity when i went to the states...i have to change this... smiles

I COMPLETELY agree! Baseball is the most romantic of sports. It's by far my favorite.

Thank you. I just had a fun few minutes thinking through the metaphor and thoroughly enjoying it.

Ca apply to any sport one plays with the heart and soul. Brilliant work with the prompt. :)

I, too, loved your perspective here, Jennifer. And watching your children embrace their joy - beyond poetry!

I love baseball, always have. When I was 13, the local MLB team won the World Series; it doesn't get a whole lot better than that.

I grew with mainly boys! I am not a tom boy, but I played ball, swapped baseball cards. I went to a Red Sox game when I was nine. My brother lived and breathed it-yes, it is poetry! Nicely done~ (He still does)

Baseball is perhaps one of the most archetypical of America's symbols, and the way you explored it here is just beautifully done. The poem draws its power from this, as well as its disarming simplicity.
