in the 70’s we were everywhere—a
white wave
of bell-bottoms, hot pants, platforms and disco
at night—
us, jennifers—meant to be, I suppose,
fair, soft—
but to that dirt-gravel half of my history, i’ve always been “gin” and i like how
that hits
how you say it with a lick of
your lips

ReplyDeleteHey gin! I escaped being a John, was the only Eric for a long time. Now they are everywhere, funny how they wax and wane in popularity over time
ReplyDeleteYour poem made me smile, Gin! :D
ReplyDeleteYou got the even lines making a nice little mini-poem too! Well done.
ReplyDeleteI’ve known a few Jennifers and, when I hear or read that name, I’m tempted to break into the old Donovan song, ‘Jennifer Juniper’ – and that ties in with Gin. I love the ending!
ReplyDeletebrilliant shot of the WaltMarie, Gin (my sister is Jennifer)
ReplyDeleteI love the name Jennifer but Gin sounds glorious!
ReplyDeleteMy dear friend Jen who still works at the old salt mine, told me the same thing, that she was part of an avalanche of Jennifers. I like that you have options!
ReplyDeleteThis is the best of the bunch so far Gin
ReplyDeleteGreat poem, Jennifer!

Perfect Waltmarie, and that "gin"-- well, you set it up real good. Loved "that dirt-gravel half of my history" -- you make every turn of phrase look so easy. Brilliant.
