Symbiotic

I'm a patchwork sketch
with patchouli rest
between my breasts---
and you
press, indent,
build
your heart
around me.

And this,
keeps me here---clear,
centered,
focused

just
as each window lilac breeze,
each fringe and tassel,
wisp of candle flame,
batik,
bohème
needs a frame.

Very nice! This has a lilting quality to it that I enjoyed. And unlike some others, I didn't know what patchouli was so I had to look it up. I always like when someone uses a word that is new to me. Peace, Linda

How we live inside that painting.., do we hold the brush or is it all painted for us? Does it matter? Love the symbolism

Beautiful Jennifer ~ I love the framing of the patchwork sketch ~ We do need our center, don't we ~

The poem is a deconstruction that constructs itself. Well written!

Art meets poetry . . . wonderful symbolism in this piece and an awesome title!

On another note, I've come upon a friendly poetry web journal in the UK that recently started up: Hedgerow, a journal of small poems. It publishes several poems once a week. Over the years, you have written some really exquisite little pieces, Jennifer, so I thought (if you're interested and can find the time) you might want to check it out. The theme for next Friday's journal is spring flowers, though other short poems are welcome.

Jennifer, are you sure you're old enough to know what Patchouli is? The wonders of your words never cease to amaze me.
