happiness is sleeping in (a nonet)

after a restful night’s sleep, i woke

to soft rain, the rap of a bird

on the pane—like music spun

for a chorus of play—

instead of the dread,

ache of the head,

and the plans of

an alarm-

devised

day

  2. I love this, Jennifer. Happiness can always be found in the simple things, in nature and in rest, especially sleeping in and listening to rain on the window.

  3. Amen to the liminal shusshing what's ahead.

  4. I slept in today myself, listening to a gentle rain and critters and birds visiting the yard for seeds. Zacky defending me ferociously from one noisy visitor, probably a squirrel bouncing in the leaves. Love your nonet! (And than you so much for your kind comment on my Wolf poem!)

  5. To be able to sleep in like that sounds lovely. I wake early without any alarm every morning.

  6. Jennifer I've grown to feel the sound of an alarm clock, no matter how pleasant, sounds obscene. I avoid it at all costs.

  7. I couldn't agree more, Jennifer, and especially when you put it so beautifully.
    Thank you. 😊
